Flying Bikini!

March 6, 2009

As part of the promotion and celebration of landing the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, Southwest Airlines wrapped an entire 737 with an image of, bikini clad,  Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli. FOX News is reporting that passengers are up in arms about the image, calling it soft porn.

Patiently awaiting the fallout from this one. The airline has received a flood of criticism on its corporate blog about the promotion, with many passengers complaining about having to board an aircraft “covered in pornography”.

Says Southwest’s Christi Day on the airline’s All about Southwest blog:

“Hello from LaGuardia Airport in New York City! I just witnessed one of the coolest plane events ever! We finally, after much speculation and anticipation, revealed the beautiful SI One. This plane, N922WN, is wrapped with a temporary decal featuring the cover model, from the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. This definitely seals the deals on Southwest Airlines’ FUN and edgy factor!”

How did Sir Richard Branson not score this one?
